Title: CedarLight Huzzah's 2010
Post by: Crystal on January 03, 2010, 09:20:13 AM
Huzzah to Chelsea for putting on a great Yule Rite last night :)  Huzzah to those of us brave enough to stay at the Grove for the night and attend all three rituals.  I believe it was, Will, Caryn, Chelsea, Jeff, Danielle, Barry, Crystal, Ashley, Kelly who were up for the rites, but several more who stayed the night :)

Huzzah to Caryn and Danielle and Chelsea for their hard work cleaning up.

Huzzah to Barry for leading an awesome talisman making workshop that a lot of folks participated in and had a great time.

Huzzah to everyone who participated in the auction, we raised $597 and some change :)  Those who submitted IOU's, you'll be getting emails from me later today with your totals (after I've slept).

Huzzah to Wayne, Ashley, and Caryn for presenting our Day of Druidry today :)  And Huzzah to Kelly for cooking lots of yummy food.  And Huzzah to everyone helped clean up afterwards :)  I will be posting totals and updates later tonight or tomorrow!

Hussah to Will and Tegan for shoveling the driveway, all the sidewalks, the steps and porches and getting them salted so that they were clear for most of the folks who showed up today.

Hussah to all who participated in the H.R. workshop I think we made great progress and even getting out the SD's balls and having many balls in the air at some points seemed to help the forward momentum.  Hussah!
(Benu has blue balls BTW...and Ashley had her's all color coordinated and in rows)

Huzzah to Ashley, Taryn, Wayne, and Will for bringing food this Sunday.  Huzzah to Ashley for cooking amazing crepes for me so I could experience them for the first time :D

I'd like to take a moment to also point out (and I am going to start pointing this out at the Grove as well cause it's starting to get on my nerves), that Rites of Caffiena is not a time for you to come get a free meal.

If you don't help clean or bring food or donate money, then you shouldn't be coming to eat.  We don't have anyone that attends the Grove that can't push a vacuum cleaner across the floor or wash a dish or pick up a tub of butter and walk it to the refrigerator.  Personally I think the Grove has sat by too long and allowed this kind of behavior and I'm just not going to tolerate it anymore.  It doesn't happen as much as it used to, thankfully, but it does still happen.
Title: Beautiful altar today
Post by: debbie on March 07, 2010, 04:00:08 PM
Huzzah to Bennu on the beautiful altar.  It was a very happy altar, too.

It was so nice to be back up there and to be outside and feel the earth reawakening and see everyone.

It was also wonderful to see all the improvements done, like the freshly painted cabinets and walls in the kitchen giving it such a welcoming feel, and seeing the Vestibule where all the religious items kept all clean and orderly.

When people at the Grove put their minds to something, IT GETS DONE!  :-)

I would like to invite a hearty huzzah to John, our beloved Grove Warden, for taking it upon himself to fix the parsonage doorway when he was in no way obligated (or asked) to.  We had been waiting for it to be fixed for some time and he was kind enough to do so as a gift for the Grove without provocation.

So Huzzah to our Grove Warden for being ever vigilant in protecting our Sanctuary :)

I would like to give a big thanks to Caryn for reviewing my Dedicants Program.  These kinds of programs don't work unless there are people who are willing to step up and give their own time to run them and provide the appropriate oversight.  Caryn is one of those people.  This is just another example of why, for me, Caryn is a model of what ADF clergy should be.  Thanks again Caryn.

Caryn did do an excellent job on it, didn't she?  She spent many many hours taking it all apart, painting everything, and putting it all back together.  She makes me tired just watching her sometimes. ;)

She needs to learn to not take those projects on herself and for so many hours at a time, especially when she wasn't asked to :x

I think we need handcuffs at the Grove, specifically for handcuffing Caryn down from doing so much :D

HAHAHA, I just got a mental picture of an iron stake in the middle of the main room with Caryn on the end of a short chain,  paintbrush in one hand, scraper in the other, frantically lunging at the walls.   ;D

I want to echo everything that has been said about our trip this weekend so far.  We had 18 representations of the CedarLight Grove, ADF community (not all necessarily members) at Trillium this weekend.  That is the most that we have ever all been together to represent CedarLight EVER at an event, and I am almost certain the most any one Grove has been at Trillium at one time.

I am touched from the bottom of my heart that so many people came to represent and show ADF and Trillium what an amazing Grove we have become these last few years.  I am further touched that so many came for the day just to see CedarLight run the main ritual, and for my consecration.  To be honest I didn't think most folks cared all that much, and I can't help but swell with pride and misty eyes that you guys made it truly feel like we are one tribe and one family.

Our campers:
Wayne, Crystal, Caryn, Tegan, Jess, Jack, CB, Tracey, Rolsby, Stephanie, Ashley, Taryn, Bill, Kelly, Bennu, Phoenix, Susan, Susan's Sister.

New CLG Tagline: CedarLight Grove ......we're a little different.

And Jack, I'm glad you had pants on.  The end.

This is by no means ALL of the photos I snapped this weekend, but I threw this together kindof quickly just to share with you guys. :)

I'll attach some more later, but as you can imagine-- I'm pretty exhausted. Will make a Trillium Photos thread later to add a few more.

Huzzah for being well represented! Huzzah for our spirit and dedication! Huzzah for our family and our tribe! Huzzah Crystal for her consecration! Huzzah ritual team!

Huzzah Cedarlight Grove!

I want to extend a special huzzah to the team of folks who cam down yesterday to do a lot of cleaning painting and reorganizing of the Grove as we work through a Grove redesign.

I was shocked and extremely grateful for how awesome everything looked this morning.  The new info station, the new main CLG altar, all the dishes and food moved into the parsonage.  It all looked -fantastic- and I am eternally grateful for all of the hard work, sweat, and determination of our Grove here.

I look forward to what comes next, and though I might not be down this Monday (dad's surgery is Friday, but I'm still going to try to come down on Sunday), I am looking forward to the next workday that I can come down and get dirty too.

Also special huzzah to Caryn for her awesome Ogham workshop today, and also to the well-oiled machine of volunteers completing their tasks on the whiteboard today.  We'll be switching tasks around again next weekend.

If you are not currently marked down on the volunteer board, feel free to speak up and I will add your name :)

I'm typing this outside as strange combat mosquitos are attacking me.

Anyway, adding to Bennu and Caryn, I felt great pride and love when I was up there today.  It was amazing to see.  I wondered if some of it or all of it was a tribute to Isaac.

You looked inside and there were people upstairs, there were people on the mainfloor.  Spackles, paintbrushes and rollers, drop clothes, tape, tools...and everyone doing something specific.

You looked outside and people were in the sanctuary or around the yard or in the back of the yard, pulling weeds, breaking up fallen branches, stacking wood, clearing out the rock piles, mulching, mowing and trimming the grass.

I wonder what the neighbors think is about to happen?  ;-)

Hussah on Hospitality and Friendship

I have to say a big HUSSAH to my grove mates today.  As we were leaving one of the folks came walking back up the steps to say that he had a flat tire.
He had a spare but no jack and no roadside assistance.  Will, Caryn, Ashley, Rebecca were still there.  After much searching, we figured out what he did have and Will & Tom set to work trying to release the spare tire from under the truck bed while Caryn and Ashley went to Pep Boys for fix-a-flat and a tire pump.  On the way, we called Bennu and Phoenix because Bennu has a truck and hopefully a jack.  The spare tire release would not work and there was no owner's manual.  Bennu and Phoenix canceled thier dinner plans and brought the jack.  In the mean time, my friend Kessa called so I had her look up changing a tire on a Chevy Avalanche on the internet.  She read while I repeated the directions and we finally got the tire off the safety latch.  Meanwhile Rebecca had called her husband who is mechanic and he got there about 1.5 hours into this.  We finally got the spare tire out, and truck jacked up only to find out that the lug nuts had been stripped.  Rebecca's husband and Will working together managed to get the nuts off and we FINALLY got the spare tire on the rim.

What is really amazing in all this craziness was that every single person had a small part to play and without them, we could not have gotten Tom back on the road.....at 6:30....

Hussah to the folk!  Hussah to teamwork!  Hussah to the Grove!!

......where is the alcohol!   :-X

I would like to post great huge mountainous heaps of thanks to all who helped to clean up last night (most of us left at about 11:30) and who came back this morning to continue helping to clean up.  Will and I finally got out of there at 5:30 today because I just kept on seeing something else that needed to be done.  Yes its an Ares thing.

I still want to get up there and clean the carpet in the parsonage before the folks come in this weekend.

You made the day go by much faster, Thanks!

I'd like to give a shout to Caryn for helping me stay last weekend while the group rented out our spaces.  Everyone that helped out helped to bring an extra $200 to the Grove :)

Huzzah for everyone who was here late today to dig, sanctify, and place our stone circle. Ashley (our lovely ringleader), Brian, Debbie, Kelly, and several names I've most regrettably forgotten.

Saw it when we came back from Towson.  I loved the color scheme.  Just beautiful.

Now for the inside...WOW.  From the background scene on the walls, to the Yule tree, to the BEAUTIFUL altar.  Just lovely.  I can't wait to see Dun Elphame when it is finished with the real swags and lights.

Still looking around for antlers.

The ritual was amazing and everything went as planned and we all deserve a big huzzah for that. We didn't have any problems or even burnt food or a scorched Dun hooray!

However, this post if for a specific person you may not even noticed unless you were inside for an extended period of time like I was. Rebekkah was our Hearth Warden. We have never used this title before but have had this position in the past. In the past we have had some good and some bad and some terrible  hearth wardens. What I saw last night blew my mind. Rebekkah was the very epitome of the virtue of Hospitality. She took tiny cat naps when it was quiet but as soon as someone came in she was there to assist them with food or coffee or whatever they needed. We were never waiting for hot water for tea or hot coffee. The food was put away but left out long enough for us to eat at a comfortable slow pace for those of us who have to eat slow.

At one point I was passed out after I took my meds  and woke up to help clean up the fridge by removing some of the food I brought and found Rebekkah and David scrubbing crock pots. These two were going to town in the middle of the night cleaning the outside of the crock pots. She cleaned out the fridge which is something we should have done before Yule but at least for me I kept forgetting to bring up or do when I was there working. She went above and beyond her job with a smile and compassion and I personally think she deserves a HUGE thank you from every single grove member. She literally kept our Hearth running all night. When it was time for snacks to come out she brought out this tray of cookies she made that was amazing and even I could have three items on that tray (does a happy dance of peppermint, coconut and candied ginger joy). It is people like this in our Grove that often go unnoticed and I do not want to see that happen because she did such and amazing job. I am not sure if she was stuck doing other people's dishes to much. I certainly hope you all did your own dishes (shakes malevolent finger) In years past we have had dishes piled to the ceiling we have had to clean in the morning and that is hell after being up all night.

So again:

A HUGE THANK YOU AND HUZZAH TO REBEKKAH FOR BEING THE BEST HEARTH WARDEN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently without appropriate words at how wonderful Rebecca was in her role last night, myself. Girlfriend, you blew my mind with your organizational skills and I often found myself just standing there in awe of your ability to wield this title like it was something you were born into. (Heck, you may have been.) I am working on a special gift for your contributions at Yule, because such work is much deserving of praise.

Huzzah to the folk who braved the cold and snow today to help take down the sides on the pavilion and put them away.  Some had already fallen down and it would have been much worse if we had left them up during any kinds of winter storm. Those I remember were Wayne, Bennu, Rob, Brian, Pheonix, Susan and me.  Let me know if I left someone out..

There wasn't much snow here in Laytonsville either tho according to my aunt in MA, her weatherman said that it was several inches deep all over Montgomery County (idk he was clearly wrong about the all over MoCo, b/ maybe there were places around here that got snowed in).  THere were flurries on Christmas and yesturday b/ nothing stuck (it was just enough to knock out internet n phone service for a while)
