Clothing Drive
CedarLight Grove is holding a clothing drive for our winter charity this year. We will be collecting new or clean/gently used clothes to donate to the STEP mental health organization. We are mainly looking for adult (I think, may need Deirdre to verify) in all sizes.
The drive will run from now till December 16th. We may need some bins donated to help carry/store these clothes as well.
Gift for the Grove
Every year we try to encourage our members to give a gift to the Grove. This year, as we've done in the past, we are encouraging members to buy a book for our library to help provide resources for our members.
We have a list of books that are on our ADF reading lists that we do not have, listed here:
http://www.cedarlightgrove.org/book-donations/
So consider buying a gift for the Grove between now and Yule (December 29th)! :)
Yule Raffle
We will be having a prize raffle during our Yule Rite this year. Between now and Yule, feel free to donate a prize (book, incense burner, music cd, cloak, deity statue, handmade goods like soap and scarves, etc) to the Grove to raffle off to yule participants.
Raffle ticket costs will be as follows:
1 ticket - $1
6 tickets - $5
15 tickets - $10
All proceeds go to support CedarLight grounds and upkeep.
Depending on the amount of prizes we receive, a gift could be given away every hour starting from revels until all the prizes are gone.
Several folks will be staying all night as a 24 hour vigil, but the main ritual will be starting at 5pm, so arrive no later than 4pm. All are welcome to stay for the all night vigil though.

Hey. Do we have a spot for the clothes? I have a small box to drop off.
Also in December I will be collecting packaged goods for the food bank. So check those cabinets.

Given the disaster in Bangladesh, do we want to see if we can find out if someone is taking clothes/scarves/etc. for that region?
And hey, if we get a lot, we could always split the stuff between our first group and this cause . . .
-
We'll need a volunteer to do some research on where we can take the clothes for Bangladesh relief, but I think that's a great idea Kat.
We'll also need Witan input, so post your thoughts if you agree please :)
-
My gift for the Grove is on its way. If anyone else bought anything, let me know and I'll mark it off the book list so we don't get duplicates :)
-
Is it ok if I just put the boxes of clothes on the groves front porch? I need these out of here soon.
Elizabeth
-
Sure, I will grab them and bring them inside. We're still trying to figure out how we're going to take all the clothes to where they need to go, but right now bring what you can :)
-
Hey. I have the boxes in the foyer.
-
One of many reminders about bringing clothes, gifts, and items for the yule raffle :)
I'm still thinking of what my yule item will be, and I have some of my sisters clothes I'm going to donate (though Kat you may want to look through them just in case)
-
We have some clothing donations that we are going to keep in the small room on one of the white tables. Someone said Kat volunteered to haul the clothes to wherever they need to go for STEP.
I'd like to volunteer to help count them, but if someone wants to help me count pieces before they are shipped up, that'd be cool too. That way we have an accurate count for when we compile all our charity stuff.
I also started donating raffle items, but I think those are the only ones we have. I'm going to keep a running list here of what I can.
Small Raffle
Turkey smudging feather
1 Green glass pendant
3 egyptian pendants, hieroglyphics with a crystal, ankh, and some egyptian queen of some sort with a crysta
Avocado and Cucumber Body Wash
Eco-Friendly Toothbrush
Big Raffle
Clothing Item Donations
Beautiful Scarf from Courtney
Boxes of clothes from Liz
-
Sure, I'll haul them! We'll figure out where they need to go in the next week or so.
I'll do my best to remember to bring my knitted donations next week. And I'll try to go through my closet and donate what I'm not wearing.
-
I might have some clothes of my sisters I can donate. I'm not sure if children's /pre-teen clothes are good....Deirdre can you let me know?
-
There are probably some of our clients who have children who can wear them. I'll double check with Steve...he is in charge of this ....Thank you, everyone...our clients will really appreciate this...

I'm making scarves to donate...if kids stuff can be used, I can make a couple of kid-sized scarves..

Don't forget to clean out your supply cabinets! We need more items for the Yule raffle. Incense burners, candles, soap, books, jewelry, music, you name it!
And now is a good time to donate some of those old clothes (in good gentle shape) or purchase an item or two for charity.
Also don't forget you can buy a used book from our wanted list for the Grove! Mine just came today and it cost me a lot cheaper buying it used and it's in great shape. Only a few bucks could help our library and our dedicant's!
-
Hey I have 4 more bags for the clothes drive. (I've been asking around.)
Also a large pile of stuff that might be good for the raffle or if someone needs a quick gift. If anyone comes and helps me they can get 1st dibs!!! (Shameless begging for help!)

Well, I ordered an eco-dent toothbrush from mothernature.com, but apparently the order was for 6 of them really cheap.
So I gave one to my dad, will be giving two to my boyfriend for him and his daughter, might give one to my sister, and I think the last one I might add to a bath and body bundle for the small raffle.
I figure if Anna makes soap, I donate body wash and this toothbrush, and maybe we'll have one other thing, it'd be a nice bath bundle for the raffle.
Maybe :)
-
I have some small glass jars for bath salts or oils if you want them.
-
I took a gander at some of the clothes for the drive. We have some amazing scarves! 6 of them to be exact. A pair of hand-knit gloves, and it looks like Liz's 4 bags of clothes.
I'll be bringing down a few pieces on Sunday of some pre-teen stuff of my sisters. Don't forget that Sunday is the last day as Kat is going to be hauling it away to it's destination.
We don't have that many raffle items yet either, so don't forget to see if there's anything you want to bring by the 29th to raffle off to support the Grove. Some of those scarves might be good temptation to buy tickets *hint hint*.
-
i got two jar candles to add for the raffle one vanilla and one banana nut bread plus that rc car thing
-
Liz gave me a few goodies for the raffle. I've also got a few things I'll bring by.
-
If it is alright I'll drop some stuff off tomorrow.
-
I found something in a store today that I am going back to get tomorrow. I'm going to make it the midnight giveaway for the raffle.
It even fits in with our holiday and ritual thematics! And boy did I laugh when I found it . . .
-
Cold weather ritual gear / ponchos /robes (take your pick) made from ploartec fleece.
I have 3 made so far, I will try to get some of the household to model for posting on the web but attached are my preliminary shots.
I will also be raffleing (sp?) my previous winter cape. I meant to get it into the cleaners this week but it just didnt happen. :(
The ritual robes will be black, white, brick red and forest green. The green one will be a little longer.

Well OK some of the pictures came out better than others.
The robes have an attached scarf that when worn down would look alot like clergy vestiments. They will have two slits in the front that a belt can be pulled through.
Below is the cape I will be offering. Other shots of it can be seen at
http://www.cedarlightgrove.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=30 (http://www.cedarlightgrove.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=30)
Which was Imbolc 2005 in the Gallery. It's probably the last time I wore it.
Note, if we want, we can start selling raffle tickets this weekend.

Wow they look awesome Caryn :)
I think I have some candle holders I'll be bringing down for the raffle as well. I think I have a plastic bin with a lid for keeping tickets in that I"ll get out at the Grove.
-
If you want to stick something on the front page feel free. These are all part of my offering to Frigga. She is all about domestic stuff but especially weaving and the making of clothing.
If we wanted to say what kind of value these have. The cape new would go for at least $150 to $200 but considering its used.... hard to say
The ritual garb would go for about $60 each and that is what comparable things on the web cost.
-
Do we have a roll of tickets for the raffle? Or should I go looking for some?
-
There was one, I will look tomorrow.
-
Yeah there is, I have it saved in the library.
-
I've donated one silk scarf, I'm going to make one or two more for the raffle.
I also have one other donation- it's a labradorite pendant, with most of the flashy part of the stone being light purple and pink (somewhat unusual to find) I will put it on a cord of some sort.
Renee
-
Well scrap the red cloak for Yule, its just not going to happen. We'll have to go with the 3 already made and the cape. best I can do. :(
-
I think we are going to need someone to run the raffle and sell tickets at the door. Anybody interested?
-
I was under the impression Kat had volunteered to run the raffle. But I can do so :)
-
I'll circulate and sell, except during the ritual. And when the kids (or adults) need to be brought back into line . . . ::) :D
-
Huzzah to all of the people who donated items to be raffled off to support the Grove. We raised a total of $260 from the raffle :)
And Huzzah to all the people that bought a gift for the Grove in the form of a book. I will have to double-check next weekend, but I believe we had 5-6 more books from our wants list donated, and a few other books that weren't on the list.
