Well Holly and I got 4 small white tabbards completed last night but then there were only 2 of us sewing.  Rick & Rhi came up with 2 boxes of books they got from 'paperbackswap' and worked on the library until about 10:30.

If we want tabards that are largely shareable sizewise, instead of the large rectangle with a head-hole, I've done 2 rectangles with button holes on the shoulders and at either side of the waist.  Then I've done strips of buttons for the shoulders and waist.  I've also done sashes for the waist.  Leaves a lot of adjustability.

I was thinking that they would belong to CLG and be used for IDing those folks who are leading the ritual.  That way the tabbards would be available for ritual leaders regardless of the individuals passing through the grove over time- cause lets face it, it happens. If they are for individuals then as people come and go there will have to be a production of more tabbards, which is time/convience/monitarily not ideal.  If they belong to the church then when folks showing up for the ritual arrive, the people participating in leading pop on a tabbard, do ritual, and return the tabbard to be used again.  

I was sort of thinking making them in a base range of sizes (probobly fitting you and I as the smallest and working up) about 5-6" off of each other (height & width), with several in each size.  Too close a size difference and we'll have to make 50 different sizes, too large a size difference and someone in between sizes looks, um, odd.

The plan is to have a large white tabbard with the stenciled edge for the bottom layerfor year round use, and then another smaller colored layer that we could change out for the holiday.  I have a bolt of white muslin,and a few of the colors for the top tabbard. I have some ideas on how to attach the two layers, but as with figuring dimensions, any suggestions would be good.

If making these goes well, they work out for the grove, there's interest, ect. then maybe we'll get a black underlayer for the dark half of the year, and use the white for the light half, but that's a whole additional project that is best left to the future after seeing how people feel about these.  

How does all of that sound?

I can bring a sewing machine.  Here's a question.  Will the Tabbards be for all individuals, for the ritual team, for folks to buy via a donation?  Or have you even gotten that far?

Just a reminder to those interested that tonight (2/17) at 7pm will be our first stitch'n'bitch to make tabbards for CLG.  It's an idea that has been around for a while and it's time to make it actually happen.  

Tonight, I expect we'll spend some time making design decisions before we start cutting and sewing.   I was sort of basing things on the tabbards used for Samhain 2004 and can be seen in the pictures.

So- Please bring yourself, your creativity, and your sewing machine. (and white thread if you have it) I have the fabric and edging we'll need to get started.

For those who would like to help but do not sew I have a stencil border that we will need folks to help paint onto the tabbards.  And on that note, we could use some cardstock/cardboard and exacto knives to cut out copies of the stencil.

I don't expect that we'll finish in one night and so March 3 and March 31 are the additional scheduled dates so far.....
